The “Kazakhstan Growth Forum” will take place on 2nd- 4th July in London, organised with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United Kingdom.

The Forum will provide a platform for potential international investors to acquaint themselves with the Republic of Kazakhstan’s strategy for investment and transformation of key strategic sectors, аs well as exchange opinions on the scale of involvement of the British capital in assisting this key Central Asian nation to fulfil its enormous economic potential.

The agenda of the three-day cross-sector forum will focus on the following topics and many more:

  • The current and future macroeconomic and investment climate in Kazakhstan
  • Raising the country’s competitiveness on the international arena
  • Global liquidity crisis and its impact on the Kazakh economy
  • Future IPOs of Kazakh companies
  • Kazakhstan’s accession to the WTO
  • The future of the extraction industry
  • Evaluation of the country’s business climate
  • Analysis of the banking sector against the backdrop of global financial markets


Representatives from a range of economic and industrial sectors have all registered to attend the forum - they include government officials, heads of state-run companies and state development institutions. Senior representatives from the Republic of Kazakhstan’s ministries for Energy and Mineral Resources, Transport and Communications, and Industry and Trade, as well as the decision-makers from “KazMunaiGaz” JSC, “Razvedka Dobycha KazMunaiGaz” JSC, “Kazyna” JSC, Kazakh Holding for Managing Government Assets “Samruk” JSC, “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” JSC, “KEGOC”, “Kazakhtelecom” JSC, and “Social-business corporation Saryarka” JSC, in addition to Agency for Regulation of Activities of the RFCA have confirmed their intention to participate.

Britain will be represented by the Foreign Office and the UK Agency for Trade and Investment (UKTI).

Around 500 representatives from government agencies, international organisations and the media will be in attendance which includes a 100-strong delegation from Kazakhstan’s private business sector, interested in developing direct business contacts with British and international partners.

Companies that have already registered to attend include HSBC, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, Barclays Capital, Nomura, Chevron, BG Group, PwC, Bouygues, Total, Air Liquide, Coca-Cola, Shell, Allianz AG, RWE, BF Global, Gasprom, Société Générale, UBS and many more.

The Newsdesk Media Group has published its third business supplement “Investment in Kazakhstan” to coincide with the Forum by with the support of the British government – it is a unique guide to the booming Kazakh economy for Western investors. Moreover, a special issue of the Financial Times dedicated to Kazakhstan will be distributed amongst the Forum participants.

Over the course of the conference, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan will display a special collection of photographs to mark the 10th anniversary of Astana where an exhibit showcasing modern Kazakhstan will also feature.
In addition, on the day prior to the commencement of the Forum, the Kazakh-British Trade and Industry Council (KBTIC) will hold its 12th AGM, which will focus on the development of the partnership between British and Kazakh SMEs and issues surrounding the advancement of the energy, agriculture, education, healthcare and tourism sectors.

The growth in external turnover between Britain and Kazakhstan in 2007, which reached $1.8 billion (12.5% higher than in 2006) stands as testament to the positive results of the two nations’ efforts to develop a trade and economic partnership.

The period 1993 – 2007 saw a great influx of foreign investment into Kazakhstan, which reached nearly $69 billion. Out of this figure British investment accounted for $5.9 billion (8,6% of the total), which put Great Britain in 3rd place in the rating of countries with highest volumes of foreign investment. The influx of investment from Kazakhstan into the British economy amounted to $270 million.

The Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan is open from Monday to Friday (except Wednesdays) between 09.00 and 12.00 for visa and legalisation matters and on Wednesdays between 09.00 and 12.00 for civil matters.
